World’s Largest Car Rally in Australia Come 2007

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Aussies who are car lovers and followers would surely be extremely excited about this new piece of news. The Cannonball Run which is the largest car rally the world over would soon be coming to the continent. But not quite soon enough. There would be some more months to go before they would be able to participate and be part of that event.

You see, Cannonball Run would be shooting towards Australia still on the fifth month of next year. But it would indeed be a great event for many car enthusiasts and fanatics of vehicles and racing would surely be having a grand time here. It would also be a chance for these people to meet other fanatics like themselves as well as rub elbows with some of the famous racers and auto experts. And if you are asking if this might also be a good place to shop around for Acura performance parts, well, maybe not. But it would be a good way to learn about vehicles and look for the kind of parts that you would like your own vehicle to bear.

It would be the Cannonball World Events who would be bringing such a grand auto activity to the continent. Cannonball World Events is a company which is based in London. It is run by Tim “Maverick” Porter, the managing director for the Cannonball Run World Events, and is also one of the automobile world’s popular icons for he is known as a car aficionado and a really grand driver. In fact, he has already gained great popularity throughout the European continent where he is known as a really infamous bad boy when it comes to driving.

Porter emphasizes, “Safety is paramount to this event and in the previous six years and eight major events held in Europe we have never had a serious accident and we believe this is due to the way we police our own event with very strict rules. Drivers must complete the course with an average speed at or below the national speed limit rather than racing to be the first car to arrive.” As per the event, he even further adds, “This event is based on the success of our Cannonball Run Europe events which embody the spirit of the original US Cannonball Run event and the 1981 movie.”

When is the best time to go to japan to see thier car racing?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I am planning a trip to japan in 2010 and want to know when should i go to take part in thier car events, such as race tracks and racing, can anyone help me with this???? thanks!

This depends on where you will go and which series you would like to see. From Tokyo you can probably watch races at Fuji Speedway or Twin Ring Motegi. Both tracks require either a rental car or a decent knowledge of the train and bus systems. Basically, most people can identify with the JGTC or Super GT as it is known now. If you plan well, you could go to both Sat and Sun. There are many other things going on at the track during the whole weekend. I usually go on Saturday only. That allows me to see the qualifying session for the main series and all of the support series races. Twin Ring Motegi has more to see in terms of the Honda Museum and Historical Car collection. Check the link below for the dates for the races at Twin Ring Motegi and the Super GT series.

If you like formula cars, then maybe the Formula Nippon might be your series to watch.

Fuji Speedway could be a little easier to get to from Tokyo. It still requires you to do your homework. Twin Ring Motegi is a bit harder to get to and needs homework also. Basically, it will take a few trains and some bus rides to get to either of these places from Tokyo.

If you would like to watch some of the smaller motorsports venues, such as D1 drifting, it will take much more homework and effort. Usually the D1 series hold their events on small tracks designed for karting and limited car use. These tracks are way out in the middle of nowhere.
D1 has one event that is very easy to get to from Tokyo. They hold a D1 drift event at the Fuji TV parking lot in Odaiba. The event is fun to attend, there are lots of things besides drifting going on. The event goes on into the night, and during the day they have stunt bikes, bike races, FMX, and kids kart racing.

In my opinion any and all of these events are filled with fun and excitement. Personally, since I ventrured into touring cars years ago, I enjoy the JGTC more because of the cars raced and the series history.

The crap like you see on the movies, that is all fake. One could not drift in a parking lot in Shibuya or the middle of Tokyo.

There is a midnight car scene on the C1 loop of the Shutoko. Also out in Daikokufuto, there are usually people hanging out with all sorts of classic and modern Japanese machinery. Around New Years at Daikokufuto, the Bozozoku and Yankees come out with their crazy cars and ratty sounding bikes. It is a scene.

Where to Find the Best 4×4 Car Hire

Friday, October 16th, 2009

If you are used to driving a large 4×4 vehicle or you just want to experience it whilst on holiday hiring a 4×4 in Spain couldn’t be easier. If you know your trip is going to take you to some of the more remote areas of the country or you will be travelling along untracked roads a hire 4×4 car could help you immensely. Not only are they capable of transporting you over rough terrain they benefit from having a huge capacity for luggage or sports equipment and also very spacious seating sometimes enough for seven people.

4 wheel drive vehicles offer a different perspective on driving, you can go almost anywhere nothing can stand in your way. Often some Spanish houses are located very remotely or a long way up winding hill pass roads. A 4×4 will transport you and your family safely and in comfort.

In 1900 Ferdinand porsche the man who would go on to found the Porsche company we know and love today invented a vehicle called La Toujours Contente The car was the first four wheel drive vehicle created although it isn’t exactly a car like we know today. He started of by designing a car which had four independent battery powered motors set in the wheel hubs. Later his idea grew to include a petrol engine which ran a dynamo powering the four electric motors. This invention proved far too expensive for the day but unbelievably and ironically is what most motor manufacturers are striving to build today. Hybrid cars of the future will work in a very similar way as Ferdinand Porsche’s first four wheel drive machine. The man’s thinking was simply a hundred years or so early.

Dutch motor racing group Spyker built and exhibited the worlds first full time four wheel drive vehicle at the Paris motor show in December 1903. Spyker always were an obscure company designing revolutionary but weirdly created vehicles; sadly fell among hard times and ceased trading, today luckily Spyker have been reborn from the ashes to once again build bonkers Dutch cars this time aiming at the super car market with the insane styling of the Laviolette. It wasn’t until 1907 that two South Australian men Felix and Norman Caldwell, applied for a patent for four wheel drive plus four wheel steer that the revolutionary system was realized.

Today a 4×4 car works in much the same way a conventional vehicle does with one or two slight differences. In a convention front or rear wheel drive car drive, or motion is taken from the engine and passed into a differential, the power and forward motion is then divided between the two wheels through a series of gearing. Wheels turn independently of each other allowing a car to go around corners when one wheel would turn faster than the other. In a four wheel drive car the differential splits power via an additional drive shaft to all for wheels. Again the differential allows “slip” so that the car can corner. However when you are on very soft or wet terrain the differentials can be altered to give limited “slip” or even locked so that all four wheels turn at the same time giving unbeatable traction.

A 4×4 drive vehicle is usually equipped with a low ratio gear box. This means that when climbing steep slopes or negotiating boggy terrain the engine revs can be kept high turning the wheels very slowly. The low ratio gears are selected only when needed from a secondary gear stick or switch inside the vehicle. Now there really is no stopping you as traction, torque and power are at heir greatest. But don’t attempt to go too quickly or you can damage the crucial gears.

Combined with highly sprung independent suspension to raise you above the deep ruts and boulders and rugged large off road tyres which give grip and ride comfort these monsters of on and off road are the ultimate hire car experience.

Anyone here know how to build a roll cage for local stock car racing?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

I need a link that explains it simply. Also if you have some good details on stripping the windows, fuel tank and other things for stock car racing. No additions can be made to the car.

First you need to get a rule book from your local track or sanctioning body which will explain what they expect for a (aka what’s a legal) roll cage. It differs all over the country. The best sources are usually local vs. internet because you can build to your track instead of building a generic roll cage. You can also get a lot of info and help from the people who run the track – they’re usually pretty knowledgeable about who to talk to and what to do, and they’re happy to help because then they don’t have to turn you away for an illegal chassy.

I’d like to know the name of some of the best movie about car racing, the one with high critical reception, thanks.

Well, there are tons of great car films, but not too many good racing films.

Best one to come to my head is Days of Thunder (1990).

There are of course otheres such as:
The Fast and the Furious[s]
Talledaga Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Cars (2006)
The Great Race (1965)
The Love Bug (1968)
Speed Racer (2008)
Death Race 2000 (1975)
Driven (2001)

Car Paintings and Prints

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Car paintings are designed to make a huge difference in the way your home, office, showroom or any other environment looks and the way you feel about it, if you are into car art. Car prints will also serve the same purpose, that is of substantially improving the visual aspect of any place you use or live in, be it the office or the study, and it should be known that these prints are the result of many hours of work and creative effort. Most car prints are made from oil paintings, though there are some that were added some watercolors as well.

Car paintings originally served the purpose of advertising for car salesmen and putting together car brochures, and this function, which was created at the beginning of the twentieth century didn’t change for about seventy years. In England, as opposed to the United States, car paintings as a form of art have a considerable history. But in the States, it wasn’t until the beginning of the 1980s that the real forms of automotive art began to manifest. Car paintings are created now by artists who may have had training in art, but did not go from painting portraits and landscapes to painting automobiles, just because they felt the need for a change or they realized that the automotive art market was expending. This is definitely not the case. Car paintings are made by people who have serious knowledge about automobiles. Be it vintage cars, racing cars or elite cars, these paintings are created by people who identify themselves with the automobile genre. However, some car paintings are the result of an artist’s work that doesn’t relate too much to cars, but sees them as any other subject for an artistic manifestation on canvas.

Although automobiles may be either a necessity or a luxury in our lives, they are present in our daily existence and they influence it a great deal. Some of the car paintings created by contemporary artists go to show the impact that automobiles have on our culture and society. Others are painted for the sole purpose of giving automotive art collectors what they want to see and have. For this reason, some car paintings express less of what the artist feels and more of what it is expected from such a work of art.

If you want add a personal touch to your office, or even your home, you can try car prints, which are suitable for any of these environments. You will find that car paintings may be quite expensive, as some of them are really old, or created by famous artists whose work is already for collectors exclusively. Car prints are usually high quality and low cost, which makes it safe to say that anyone can get their car prints with the model, year or color they wish. Some car prints come in limited editions which can make them a little more expensive, but they are not something that everyone can have access to, so if you decide to purchase such car prints, you will be among the very few owners of that specific model.

Which racing track would you recommend if I were to go to a sports car race?

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

I’m thinking of taking my boyfriend to a sports car racing, but I have no idea how I should start. Which racing track would you guys recommend? Any places in Southern California please.:) Thank you!

Aha, looks like you took my advise from a previous answer about considering going to a sportscar race.
If you want to go this year, your choices are limited and the only race left on the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) is at the Mazda Raceway in Laguna Seca, Oct 19-21. See link below and scroll to bottom of page.

http://www.americanlemans.com/Schedule/SeasonSchedule.aspx

This link will take you to the Mazda Raceway website which has schedules and ticket information:

http://www.laguna-seca.com/

The Rolex Series has only one race left on the schedule, but it’s next weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
Looks like some of the other people who answered your question should take remedial reading. Bristol is an oval race track, it isn’t in Southern California and it doesn’t host a sportscar race.
By the way, there are no more major events at Infineon Raceway, that last one was on the weekend.
I hope at least some of this is helpful.
