WTH!!
Why did the porsche engineers use alien wrench screws for the head of the engine. The last screw that i have stripped and am wondering is there any drill bit out there that wont go dull the second it touches this strong piece of German steel.
Esay out screw extractor does not work. If a drill bit can drill the screw how would a screw extractor do the job?
Be careful with easy-outs. Go slowly and carefully. If you break that off in there you’ll have a real problem. I recommend sending the part to machine shop to let THEM remove the stripped piece. (If that is possible)

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009The Slow Evolution of Porsche 911
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Various car companies consider the concept of evolving their products into something more appealing in the eyes of their target market. Changes will take place as the product develops into a renewed character.
On the other hand, Porsche seem to decline such style of perception. The progressive evolution for the Porsche 911 Carrera is slowly taking place. As the years passed by, only little enhancement from the previous Porsche 911 passed on to the next of its class.
The 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera-S presently is showing off a vast improvement on its exterior. Boasting off quad-element HID headlamps and comes with the not-new ovoid surrounds. Beneath its well known trademark, the frog-like headlights, is a larger air intake into which the signals are included — positioned in a horizontal manner. Restrained lower lip extends from the chin spoiler and continues all the way down the body sides and into the rear bumper. The bumper has been revised to accommodate wider-set tailpipes, and unfortunately, droopy Cayenne-style LED tail lamps. Cornering lights still situated at bottom part of the headlights and has a little upgrading done. The cornering lights stayed consistently the same for the past years like the Wrangler’s Jeep cornering light.
As for any mechanical advancement that always comes with all styling progress and updates, Porsche will remain reserved whenever the word evolution is concerned. But it’s now unnecessary to wish for the evolution of its horsepower bump. The current Carrera/Carrera-S with 325 to 355 is not a slow evolution for a car with that kind of stance. Porsche 911 models are known to be one of the meanest road thunders ever made. The 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera-S has already evolved into a fundamental precision.

Porsche 928 – Groundbreaking Prowess Never Wanes
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Porsche 928, which was named ‘land shark’ due to its ability to eat up the road in less time, is enjoying the limelight as it gets favorable attention from car fanatics of today’s time. Aficionados are still flabbergasted by the fastest car in the whole world. Its long existence and rocketing sales are just few of the reasons why Porsche 928 is said to be hotter than before.
Porsche has pioneered lots of technical features in vehicles. Moreover, said features were incorporated in its flagship deluxe coupe. Designed in the year 1971 to eventually replace 911, Porsche 928 was finally released to the public in 1977 at the Geneva Motor Show. Said car was named “International Car of the Year”. The car’s design was based on the transaxle principle where the engine was placed in front of the car and the gearbox. The extensive testing and experimentation resulted in a car with superb standards in steering, brakes, and suspension.
The car was a front-engined, water-cooled, 4.5 Litre V8 with a rear transaxle. It also has ABS, 2+2 seats, air-conditioning system, polyurethane bumpers, bigger luggage space, and other extras. The production of Porsche 928 comes in 5 series – the 928, 928 S, 928 S4, 928 GT and finally 928 GTS.
In the process, said car went through significant changes. Its shaped was smoothened to augment its aerodynamics. Flush tail lights and new wing were also incorporated in the car to yield better look and performance. To perfect the car, luxurious accessories for a Porsche were added.
When it comes to performance, Porsche 928 has a great weight distribution and a new powerful V8 to do better than other Porches. It is fast, sporty, fun and convenient to drive. Nonetheless, since Porsche 928 is considered a hot car, expect it to be delivered in a hefty price. The model is the most expensive car of Porsche in the market these days.

Can a Mitsubishi Eclipse receive an engine transplant from a Porsche Carrera S?
Monday, October 12th, 2009If you’re into engine modification of ur ride, can one replace a 2008 model Mitsu Eclipse’s 3.8L DOHC 24V V6 engine rated at 263hp for a more muscular 3.8L DOHC 24V F6 (355hp) from a Porsche 911 Carrera S without extensive modification under the hood? Same displacement, same number of valves. Is it possible? Disregarding the costs, of course.
I would recommend putting the eclipse engine in the Porsche instead. Also make sure you put a 5 inch fart-can that drags the ground on the back, and, on the door, a graphic of a one-winged angel with a big fist punching a tax collector in the face. You would be the envy of all Porsche owners.

Porsche Waiting for Eu’s Court Legal Opinion
Monday, October 12th, 2009
Porsche AG’s decision on raising its stakes in Volkswagen AG, Europe’s largest carmaker and brand of popular auto parts like Volkswagen head gasket, will depend on the advisory opinion that will be released next week by the European Union’s highest court. The opinion on the legality of the so-called Volkswagen law which protects the automaker from possible takeovers and limits the voting rights of shareholders to 20% regardless of the size of their stake will be published on February 13, 2007.
The European Court of Justice in Luxembourg which in most cases follows its advocates-generals’ advice is expected to rule in the next six months. Porsche, which is to date the largest shareholder in Volkswagen with 27.4% stake and soon to increase to 29.9% upon the approval of the board, would like to be given more privileges especially with regards to Volkswagen’s management.
In the year 1960 there was a decision passed against the so-called Volkswagen’s law which would have given Porsche the decisive vote in Volkswagen’s management decision and signals a possible takeover move by the automaker stated Stephen Pope, the head of equity research at Cantor Fitzgerald Europe in London. He also added, “The time has now come where Volkswagen law has to be curtailed in line with 21st century market economics. Porsche is on the cusp of where it has 30% and this will clear the way toward a full acquisition.”
Lower-Saxony is where Wolfsburg-based Volkswagen and four of its factories are based and the automaker’s second largest shareholder with a stake of about 20%. The Volkswagen law allows any investor with a 20% stake veto powers over major decisions such as those that concerns factory closing and capital increases.
It should be noted that during the December 12, 2006 hearing, the European Commission, EU’s Brussels-based regulator in a court hearing, restricts the free movement of capital, comparing the law to special holdings, or “golden shares” that some countries hold in former state monopolies. The court has agreed with the regulator in such cases in the past and even forced countries like France, UK and Spain to give up these powers.
Last year the German government told the EU court that the law just can’t be labeled discriminatory simply because an investor is given a limited 20% minority right. The supervisory board of Porsche maker of the remarkable 911 Carrera, has approved increasing its stake in Volkswagen to 29.9% as of last November 15, 2006. A month after, Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking has told reporters that there were no immediate plans for a complete takeover of Volkswagen but its not ruling out the possibility of an eventual offer.
Porsche wants the Volkswagen Law overturned since it gives the government a significant influence on the management of Europe’s largest automaker and hinders the shareholder’s own voting power to reflect its stakes. And according to Porsche Spokesman Frank Gaube, “The Volkswagen law is an anachronism.” The case is C-112/05 Commission v Germany.

Porsche Gears Up for a Possible Takeover
Monday, October 12th, 2009
Porsche AG, the maker of valuable and profitable cars like 911, Cayenne and Boxter, will increase its shares in Volkswagen to avoid takeover from abroad. In view of this forthcoming act, auto analysts predict that Porsche is gearing up for a takeover of its own.
Recently, Porsche announced that it will purchase sufficient shares in Volkswagen to boost its share to 29.9 percent. Thirty percent of which means a full takeover bid. It seems that the automaker is not only concentrating on the quality of its Porsche factory parts but also with its shares.
Porsche, a German automaker, is controlled by the family of Ferdinand Piech Volkswagen chairman. Nowadays, the automaker is the biggest shareholder of Volkswagen.
Wendelin Wiedeking, Porsche CEO, said that the automaker has no plans to takeover VW. He added that the automaker wants to sell 8.75 million new shares. “We believe this may presage a full bid by the company for Volkswagen, fulfilling Ferdinand Piech’s evident wish to control the company ahead of a likely expiry of the Volkswagen law limiting any one shareholder to 20 percent of voting rights,” said analyst Stephen Cheetham at Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd. in London.
Cheetam noted that the operational impact on Volkswagen being owned by Porsche “is also highly uncertain,” and that the ouster of Pischetsrieder may “herald a turn away from (his) cost-reduction strategy to one focusing on products and volume growth.”
Cheetam also added that Porsche have to bank on debt-financing to pay for Volkswagen. Said brand is now valued at approximately 30 billion euros ($38.38 billion). Porsche’s stake coupled with the state of Lower Saxony, would be unlikely to sell its share amounting to 20 percent. This means that Porsche only need to acquire about 50 percent of Volkswagen.
Credit Suisse, an auto industry critic, said the raise in stake as well as the authorization for the hike in its capital was Porsche sending a signal that “it has the necessary firing power to bid for VW” if its influence at Volkswagen was ever in doubt.
Volkswagen is experiencing turmoil and amidst this turmoil and company’s plans, media has reported that Wolfgang Bernhard, the head of VW’s flagship Volkswagen brand, intends to resign. According to some critics, Porsche is solidifying the company to improve its operations and strategies.

Bmw Z4 Coupe Or Porsche Cayman?
Sunday, October 11th, 2009
Among the compact sports cars, the BMW Z4, Porsche Cayman and Porsche Boxster stand out. But which is you? And why did BMW and Porsche wait so long before making the coupes? There is no Boxster coupe, but the Cayman is almost the same thing – but uprated.
It might seem odd that the two German companies, well-known for high-performance and sporty cars, waited to announce their coupes at the same time. The answer lies in why they introduced the roadsters in the first place.
Porsche wanted a new, smaller model to increase its market coverage. Not everyone likes the 911, and not everyone wants a coupe. So it made sense to opt for the mid-engine layout – the 911 is rear-engined – and the better balance that gives in designing the Boxster. At the same time, the addition of an open-top roadster would also increase sales. And both tricks worked.
But what about BMW? Well, BMW wanted to build cars in the USA, and did not want to build the same cars it built in Germany as that would increase costs. So it decided to build a roadster for the US market, although it would be marketed elsewhere.
At that time there was more potential volume for a boulevard cruiser type of two-seater than an out-and-out sports car in the USA, so the BMW Z3 was born. It was a rather tall car for a sports car, and although a hardtop was offered, it looked odd, making the car look even taller than it was.
Z4 more sporty than Z3
The BMW Z3 did not really catch on in Europe, so the Z4 was designed as a more sporty car than the Z3, and with its 3-liter engine which develops 265 bhp, is a good match in performance for the Porsche Boxster. Meanwhile, Porsche decided to fill out its range with an extra model, to be priced between the Boxster and the 911. In fact, the Cayman is based on the Boxster, but has more sporty suspension, and has a larger engine. Now, though you can get a Cayman with a 2.7 liter engine as well as the 3.4 liter job. The Boxster gets 2.7 and 3.2 liters.
Because Porsche makes flat-six engines, it can easily produce engines of different capacities from 2.7 to 3.8 liters, and many parts are common to all of them.
If you are looking for a sporty car, then you will want to look at the Z4 3-liter, which produces 265 bhp, and reaches 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, a time matched by the Boxster 3.2. The Cayman is a fraction quicker, getting to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. Mind, if you want maximum performance from these cars, you can get the BMW Z4 M, with over 300 bhp on tap.
Choosing between Z4 and Cayman
But when it comes to the choice between the Z4 and Cayman coupes, you will be influenced by which one looks better. Although the Z4 looks a lot better than the Z3 it does have a few quirky lines, which don’t appeal to everyone, and the coupe is no better.
The Cayman has the usually slick Porsche lines, with a long tail and built-in spoiler which looks pretty good. On the road performance is not much different, and both have super engines and gearboxes, but they don’t do things in quite the same way. The Cayman is a beautifully balanced car that can be driven fast with confidence, but if you want to hang the tail out, the Z4 might be more to your liking.
Both are great sports cars, and will give you a lot of fun. What else should you consider? Nissan’s 350Z is also quite a car, with a lusty V-6, the Mercedes-Benz 350 SLK 350 and new Audi TT are also worth looking at.

what is the maintenance cost of a newly leased Porsche in Canada?
Saturday, October 10th, 2009I want to know what is the real cost of ownership of a Porsche in Canada. I am thinking of a 911 C4/C4S. How often do you have problems that need to be fixed in the dealership? (ie how reliable is the quality?)
You sould only have the Oil and Filter Changes for the most part of the Lease. Failures are few these day and valve adjustments went away with the 993 model. The current 996 model is a great car and fun to drive.
JD Power’s rated Porsche #1 in the 2008 APEAL Study Results also ranks highest in the 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS).
Speak with the Dealership Maintenance Manager and go over what is expected.
