What is the most economical way to travel to Germany and buy a new Porsche GT3?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I would like to travel to Germany and buy a porsche GT3 and drive on the autobhan then ship the car back to the states to drive here. What is the cheapest way to do this?

The criteria you have is going to make it difficult to cut costs. The car itself will need to be ordered from a US Dealer with the European Delivery option. You could plan to buy a car in Europe, but while you could save on the actual purchase price due to exchange rates and different pricing in some locales, you would far exceed this in trying to get your Euro car approved for us in the US. So, on the car side, you need to order a new car from a dealer and there will not be any options to really save money here.

Which means the primary spot where you could try and save would be on the travel expenses of getting yourself to and from Europe. The most likely route here would be to place the order for the GT3, and then shop around for the best travel prices and hotel prices for the period you’ll be in Europe to pick up the car. No real secret, just compare and buy as early as possible.

Though, you could take a gamble… if you were to wait until the last minute to book, you may luck into some very inexpensive options (if you sign up with any airlines to get notice of last minute specials, you’ll see European destinations and travel/hotel packages are common, if you can leave within a few days notice – often due to underbooked packages that they are now trying to fill up to make the most of their investment). But this is a gamble since you will not have much flexibility in getting the car. So if you were to gamble on this, you could save alot, but it would also be possible that you would instead pay alot more to secure a last minute fare (or worse, simply not be able to find an option for the time you need).

In the end, the difference between "cheap" and "normal" would come out to as much as one to two thousand dollars… which is not small, unless you consider that you are talking about $110K+ for the car, and a few thousand more per person in travel… and if you are going that far you will probably enjoy the whole experience more if you let loose with the purse strings and spend a little extra to make it a nice vacation.

The Future of Holden Racing Team

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

According to a recent report from the Herald Sun online (www.news.com.au), General Motors’ Holden Racing Team (HRT) in Australia has been placed in court for the jury to decide who will take control of the team. The ownership of Holden Racing Team has been disputed by interested parties willing to operate the team including Mark Skaife of Skaife Sports and former HRT owner Tom Walkinshaw. It is up to the Australian jury to decide who among the two interested parties will take the ownership of Holden Racing Team and continue its operation in V8 Supercars car racing category, which is the most popular motor sport in the country as well as in New Zealand. The two parties have previously proposed a structure for the Holden Racing Team, and partnership between the two parties, Skaife and Walkinshaw was included, which only means that Skaife has the right to take control of the Holden Racing Team.

“We have received the documents that were required to be provided by Skaife Sports. And they have been received within the nominated time frame,” said TEGA chairman Kelvin O’Reilly. “The issues we are dealing with are complex, which will necessitate a number of detailed discussions with the TEGA board. We are progressing those as quickly as we can, with a view to removing the uncertainty that hangs over the situation as soon as we possibly can.” he added.

Australian car racing fans, especially Holden Racing Team fans are thrilled to see whoever takes control and operation of Holden Racing Team, as well as excited to see the team compete in the 2007 season of Australia’s V8 Supercars. The Holden Racing Team will debut the Commodore VE in the 2007 season equipped with most likely the 6.0L 270 kW (or more) V8 engine. As expected for GM branded vehicle, the Holden Commodore VE is equipped with quality GM parts like powertrain components, GM radiator, and chassis system.

Meanwhile, the report also said that injured driver Paul Radisich of Team Kiwi Racing will take a thorough checkup as he decide to enter the V8 Supercar in spite of his condition. The New Zealand driver crashed his Holden Commodore in an opening practice session for the Super Cheap Auto 1000 at Bathurst last October.

“I really want to be behind the wheel of this new TKR machine in Perth but I also know I need to be 110 per cent fit, not just physically but race fit and ready to be on the pace of what is a great race package this year.” he said.

Wealthy Consumers Named Porsche Top Luxury Brand

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

In the world of the auto industry, there are brands that are accessible only to wealthy individuals. While most motorists dream of owning a luxury car, the prices of these dream machines put them beyond the reach of most consumers. That is why in choosing the best luxury brand in the United States, it is imperative that one should ask people who can actually afford them or who have been in and around such vehicles.

Recently, the Luxury Institute, an independent and impartial ratings and research institution known for specializing on gathering information on the preferences of high net worth consumers, undertook a survey to find out the best luxury brand. The results are in and for the third straight year, Porsche sits at the top of the list of the best luxury car brand today.

The Italian brand edged out other popular luxury car brand to take the top spot. Among its competition are Acura from Honda, Lexus from Toyota, and Infiniti from Nissan, German brands Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. Other luxury brands are owned by Ford like Volvo Cars and Jaguar. According to the institute, the main reason why Porsche came out on top is its “consistently superior quality, exclusivity and uniqueness, measure of enhanced social status and its ability to make the client ‘feel special’ throughout the entire ownership experience.”

The respondents were also asked which luxury brands they will recommend or the brand of the next luxury car they will likely buy.

Peter Schwarzenbauer, the President and the Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Cars North America, is obviously thrilled after Porsche received the distinction. According to him: “Customer perception is everything in the luxury car market. This distinction helps us know that we are successfully delivering on our brand values in a very competitive automobile market.”

The United States auto market is one of the most competitive if not the most competitive market in the world and Porsche coming out with this distinction will surely boost the brand’s popularity among wealthy prospective car buyers. Aside from bringing to the table high level of performance, Porsche cars also offers reliability. While reliability is an integral part of Porsche cars, their performance can still be enhanced with aftermarket parts such as Stillen cold air intake systems.

In conducting the survey, the Luxury Institute facilitated an online survey of more than 1,600 Americans with an average income of $313,000 and a net worth of $3.3 million. Respondents of the online survey associate the brand Porsche with “power, style and excitement”, “value,” “elegance,” and “trust and respect”.

According to Milton Pedraza, the Chief Executive Officer of the Luxury Institute: “Wealthy consumers tell us that Porsche stays true to its core values and to its enthusiasts. porsche remains an automobile that never loses its way on the luxury highway, even at high speeds.”
